You mentioned adding brakes to the trailer. If the trailer does not already have brake mounting flanges on the axle(s) then those will have to be added. The Brake Controller installation kit part # ETBC7 that you referenced actually includes the 7-way connector part # 37185 that you referenced also so you would only want one or the other depending on the situation.
If you have trailer brakes you would want the # ETBC7, if your trailer does not have brakes then the # 37185 would be the correct part.
